Maps #32: Current Events

Activity #1
I was fascinated with all the things that were listed in "100 Things To Do With Google Maps". The first one I tried was #72, Find cheap gas, but it did not work :(

Since we may be going to Omaha in July, I decided to do #46, Find the shortest round-trip route. The site sent me to : http://gebweb.net/optimap/ . The computed data was as follows: Round-trip duration: 1 days 7 hrs 53 min., Round-trip length: 3164 km. Not as bad as I thought it would be, but with the price of gas, it may be cheaper to fly!

Activity #2
I looked at Global Incident Map and National Atlas and found them very interesting and informative. I liked Terra Server the best. I viewed the Seven Wonders, which included the Ancient 7, New 7, Natural 7, and Engineering 7. The link to the site is: http://www.terraserver.com/samples_wonders.asp

Bonus Activity
I enjoyed "Slipping the surly bonds of Earth" with EarthNow Lansat Image Viewer.

Maps #31: Have Map, Will Travel

This map (compliments of Yahoo Maps) shows the location of the schools my sons have or will attend:
A. Rice University
B. University of Houston
C. Hightower High School
D. Home
I am very familiar with Map Quest and have used it frequently.
I was amazed to learn that on Google Maps not only was I able to find my street, but I was able to see my home with our cars parked in the driveway. I know technology is a good thing, but this is too much. No privacy anymore!!!
